Online Psychiatric Care With Aetna in Washington: What to Expect
Can you see a psychiatric provider from home?
For many people, the biggest barrier to mental-health care isn’t knowing that they need help. It is fitting an appointment into an already busy life.
Telehealth can remove some of those barriers.
Meaningful Psychiatry provides psychiatric services by secure video for eligible patients throughout Washington. If you have Aetna, you may be able to use your in-network benefits for eligible telehealth services.
Why people choose online psychiatric care
No commute
You can avoid driving across the Seattle area or rearranging your day around traffic.
More flexibility
A virtual appointment may be easier to fit around work, school, family responsibilities, or other commitments.
Care from your own space
You can attend from a private location that feels comfortable to you.
Access outside major cities
Telehealth can be especially useful for people who live farther from large medical centers or have fewer psychiatric providers nearby.
What happens before your appointment?
1. Contact the practice
Tell us that you are interested in psychiatric care and have Aetna.
2. Provide your insurance information
We can work with the information available to verify benefits and network status.
3. Complete your intake information
You may be asked about your symptoms, history, current medications, previous treatment, and goals.
4. Prepare your space
Find a private location and make sure your camera, microphone, and internet connection are working.
What happens during the first appointment?
Your first appointment is an opportunity to understand what you are experiencing and discuss your goals.
Your psychiatric provider may ask about your mental-health history, current symptoms, medications, sleep, mood, energy, concentration, relationships, work or school, and other factors that may be relevant.
The appointment is also a conversation. You should have time to ask questions and discuss your concerns.
What happens after the appointment?
Depending on your treatment plan, follow-up care may include medication management, additional evaluation, psychotherapy, behavioral strategies, or coordination with other members of your care team.
If medication is prescribed, your provider will discuss the treatment plan and follow-up needs with you.
Is telehealth right for everyone?
Telehealth can be a convenient option, but it is not the right setting for every situation.
If you are experiencing an emergency or are in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. If you are experiencing a mental-health crisis, call or text 988.
A note for Washington patients
You must be physically located in a state where your provider is authorized to provide telehealth care at the time of your appointment. For Meaningful Psychiatry’s Washington telehealth services, patients should be in Washington during the visit.
